BULLDOG ANTIQUES
MARENGO, ILLINOIS
THE SHOP
A 1919 house on Route 23, just south of Route 176
True antiques only — 1960s and earlier. We sell out of a house and we keep it that way: kitchen pieces are in the kitchen, cameras are in the camera shop, and the basement is full of unique treasures.
Everything is tagged. a short description and the price. Rooms stay clean and uncluttered so you can actually see what's in front of you — and if you want to know more about a piece, ask. We can usually tell you.

ROOM BY ROOM
Inventory turns over constantly — call ahead if you're after something specific
THE FRONT ROOM
bulldogs, naturally

The counter came out of a lodge hall. Ask us anything about anything on the walls.

Neon, enamel, chalk and brass. Some of it's for sale. Some of it isn't.

Chalk bulldogs above, cast metal ones below, and a Coca-Cola print by the window.

Not only bulldogs. Sporting prints turn up regularly.
CHALKWARE & CARNIVAL
prize figures, banks and kewpies

Shelf after shelf of carnival prize figures, sailors, flappers and cartoon characters.

Old books, sheet music and records, with more chalkware standing guard.
ADVERTISING & COUNTRY STORE
tins, packaging, signs & smalls

Crates on the wall, packed with tins, boxes and shop stock.

The curved oak case holds the small and breakable. Hats and caps ride on top.

Cash registers, a check writer, travel-stickered luggage and a cabinet full of embossed glass.

Advertising signs, shoe lasts, oil lamps and a case of small finds.

Embossed glass, felt pennants and a Coca-Cola crate by the window.

Doorstops on top, unopened hardware and Perfection wicks below.

Art pottery and glass up top, a case of barbershop and drugstore stock below.

A 1942 Schlitz Brewing piece, Milwaukee. The kind of thing that stops people in the doorway.

Busch, Camel, Genesee, Budweiser. Most of them still light up.
THE CAMERA SHOP
its own room, its own door

A whole room of photographica under a Kodak lamp.

Brownies, folders, TLRs, rangefinders and the odd press camera.

Oversize prints watching over the shelves.

Movie cameras, projectors, manuals and dealer advertising.

Framed camera identification posters, useful and decorative.

The reason the whole room glows orange.
TOYS, TRAINS & GAMES
tin, wood and cardboard

Rocking horses up high, tin toys and games on the shelves, trains on the rack.

Model trains, an apothecary chest of labeled drawers and a case of smalls.

Cases of toys and figures, with the camera shop door just beyond.

Board games, Chinese checkers and shelf after shelf of rolling stock.

Every case in here is full, and there's more in the basement.
THE KITCHEN
exactly where you'd expect it

Pyrex, enamelware, sifters and utensils, staged in the actual kitchen.

Dinnerware sets, teapots, baking pans and a Dutch oven on the enamel table.

Depression glass, dinnerware and food advertising along the top of the cabinets.
DOWN IN THE BASEMENT
open to customers, and worth the stairs

A Schwinn sign, crosscut saws, pressed steel trucks and pennants from everywhere.

Kerosene lamps by the dozen, each one documented on its own sheet.

Font, collar, burner and chimney identified on paper before it goes out on the floor.
CLOSE UP
the kind of things you'll find here

Name, short description, price. That's the tag.

Ordinary once, uncommon now.
