An original 1940s porcelain dealership sign, one of only a handful known to survive

download.jpeg

This bulldog is an original Mack Trucks dealership sign from the 1940s. It's made of porcelain enamel baked onto steel, which is why it's survived the weather for eighty years. It's about three feet long, and it sat on top of the big oval Mack sign outside truck dealerships, paired with a second dog facing the other way.

Mack has used the bulldog as its symbol for over a hundred years. Soldiers in World War One nicknamed the company's trucks "bulldogs" because they were so tough, and the name stuck.

Very few of these signs are left. Collectors who've tried to count them have found only a handful, and most of the pairs were separated decades ago. In 2021, one in better condition than this sold at auction for thirty thousand dollars.

At that price, our Bulldog is a complete bargain for only $6,500.00
